Recently Engaged, Congratulations… Now it’s time for planning

Congratulations on your Engagement! This is the moment you've been waiting for. It is so surreal, yet it is really happening and like or not, the days, weeks, months following are going to be overwhelming. There are so many things to decide you may not know where to start. Relax, because we’ve put together a list of things to help you get started.....

Start a Pinterest Board or Binder...

Begin searching through pins for things that inspire you – they don’t even have to be a wedding themed if they spark an idea. You can even pin directly from wedding blogs and design websites so that it’s all in one place. If you prefer a hands-on approach go through bridal magazines for inspiration.

Work Out Your Budget....

Determine how much you have to spend, based on your families’ contributions and your own. This is a crucial step before moving forward with any vendors and guests list. Be realistic about what you can afford or you may be disappointed later when you have to cut something you really wanted because you can’t afford it.

CHOOSE A TIME OF YEAR....

You don’t have to be specific with a date yet until you nail down a venue but choose a season such as Spring or Fall or even a month. This will be one of the first thing people will ask you after you get engaged and it is very important to your family, and your groom’s family as well as the wedding party as they play a significant role in your big day. You may have to plan around the important people in you life! If you plan to have nieces or nephews, look for dates they are out of school so they have time to travel and can enjoy the time with you and not have to rush back home.  Make sure you incorporate both sides of the family and that nobody is left out. It only leaves hurt feelings in the end. Communication is critical between both sides.

Pick your wedding party and create your guest list......

A binder is great for more than just your inspiration, it’s a great place to keep names, addresses, and any other contact information you need. You’ll want to choose your wedding party pretty soon after you announce your engagement. The sooner they know, the sooner they can make arrangements and help you plan your wedding especially if you’re not planning on hiring a planner. A rough headcount allows you to talk to vendors and really assess cost and determine whether you need to cut it further.
